In addition to daily acts of Collective Worship, we attend St. Peter’s Church, Hargrave or sometimes St.Helen’s Church, Tarporley for Celebration Services on special occasions, such as Harvest, Christmas and Easter.
In June, the Infant Class attended St. Helen's for a mock baptism and marriage service.
In recent years we also presented services at Huxley Methodist Church until its closure last year. Since this time, regular PFA events such as afternoon tea and singing of Christmas songs by the children, which welcome the wider community, have taken place there.
Our Mothering Sunday Celebration Service usually takes place at the beginning of morning school in the School Hall. Gifts and cards are made in school and each child gives a primula plant donated by the diocese to his/her mother.
As part of our Christmas celebrations, we welcome Mary and Joseph, visitors from Hargrave, St. Peter's Church, into our school and homes with Las Posadas, a tradition which started in Spain but is now mainly celebrated in Mexico. We make a book of photographs and written accounts of Mary and Joseph's experiences. At the end of the Christmas Term, the Mary and Joseph dolls, together with our book, are returned to the community who continue the process in their homes until Christmas Eve when Mary and Joseph take their places in church for the annual Crib Service.
During Lent, we have taken part in 'Love, Life, Live Lent'. Children have attempted some of the challenges and recorded their findings in the booklets or scrapbook. Prizes have been awarded.
Children have made Easter Gardens and taken part in an Eggshibition where their Easter themed entries were made of egg shells.
At our Celebration Services, collections are made for various charities: we collect for the Children's Society after our Christingle Service; after our Harvest Service, the collection and donated goods are taken to either Save The Family or The Food Bank.
We take part in the annual Leaver's Service at Chester Cathedral and have participated in The Big Sing.
For our Celebration Services we write and perform our own scripts, usually including drama, readings, singing, musical items and prayers, attempting to combine factual items and creative approaches. We aim to involve everyone in these services. The children’s own work, produced in class and after school clubs, is an integral part of these celebrations: some of their poems and prose can be seen on this website and children are able to take home some of their creations as a lasting memento. Our children are enthusiastic participants in all of these activities.
We also participate in charitable events such as Comic Relief, Sports Relief, MacMillan Coffee Mornings and Children In Need.
