Years 5 and 6 Explore Visual Mathematics

As part of our approach to teaching mathematics we concentrate on using a concrete, visual and abstract approach. In Years 5 and 6 last week children were exploring creating arrays – using counters – to visually represent different multiplication calculations. This way of working allows children to understand the mathematics behind the concept and secures greater levels of understanding of the abstract representations.
