PUPIL PREMIUM

Please see STATUTORY INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION TAB FOR PUPIL PREMIUM REPORTS/STATEMENTS

What is Pupil Premium?

Pupil Premium is additional funding provided by the government to schools to support specific groups of children who may be vulnerable to possible underachievement. These include children who are entitled to free school meals (FSM), those who are looked after by the Local Authority or have been adopted (known as Pupil Premium Plus) and children of armed forces personnel (known as Ever 5).

The Department for Education urges schools and local authorities to encourage parents/carers to register their child(ren) as eligible for FSM even though dinners are free for KS1 children so that their child receives thier maximum Pupil Premium entitlements and therefore support. At Huxley, we decide upon the best way to spend the Pupil Premium money in conjunction with parents, in order to reduce any disadvantage the child may face and have maximum impact on their educational experience.

Funding Year 2023-24

In the 2023-24 financial year, schools will receive the following funding for each child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years:

  • £1,455 for pupils in reception to Year 6

Schools will also receive additional funding for each pupil who has been in local authority care for 1 day or more or has left local authority care for one of the following:

  • adoption;
  • a special guardianship order;
  • a child arrangement order (previously known as a residence order).

Who is eligible for Free School Meals or Pupil Premium?

You may qualify if you are a parent, guardian or carer and receive one of the following:

  • Income support (IS)
  • Income Based Jobseeker Allowance (IBJSA)
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999 Child Tax Credit and have an annual income (as assessed by HMRC) that does not exceed £16,190
  • The Guarantee element of State Pension Credit
  • Working Tax Credit run-on - paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
  • Universal Credit

Working Tax Credit - if you or a partner are receiving Working Tax Credit, regardless of income, you will not qualify for free school meals.

You can check your eligibility online by clicking the image below.

Alternatively, you can contact Benefits Information:

Email: benefits@cheshirewestandchester.gov.uk

Telephone: 0300 123 7021 - Monday to Friday (8am to 7pm)

Post: Revenues and Benefits Department, PO BOX 187, Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, CH34 9DB

If your child does not have Free School Meals but may be eligible because of your family's income level, please contact the office (in confidence) to register them. Even if you do not wish them to have the meals, this would mean that the school could still claim Pupil Premium Funding that could be used to help your child.

We currently have less than five pupils on roll who are eligible for this funding. To prevent the identification of these pupils, specific information about how the funding is used to support these pupils is held in the school office. Please contact the Headteacher if you would like more information.
